Ranked at the bottom of our list is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This city was actually ranked #1 for prescription pain killer abuse in 2012, exceeding the national average by 242%. 26. Tuscon, AZ

The opiate epidemic in Tuscon is out of control. This is mainly because Tuscon lies on the Mexican border, where heroin is smuggled in daily. In fact, the amount of heroin seized at the southwest Mexican border has increased by over 232% since 2008.

25. Cleveland, OH

Camden has a heroin death rate over 10 times higher than the nation average. This coupled with the fact that Camden is ranked #1 on America’s top 5 most dangerous cities, this place is in desperate need of help.

2: Baltimore, MD

Many call Baltimore the heroin capital of the United States. According to a census, as many as 1 in 10 residents there are addicted to the drug. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency says Baltimore has the highest total number of addicts per capita, putting then number at an estimated 60,000 heroin addicts in a city of 645,000.

1: Dayton, OH

At #1 is Dayton, the most drug addicted city in the country with the highest rate of heroin overdose according to multiple sources. As in most other cities, the problem originates with prescription pills, to which users become addicted and eventually move on to heroin which is cheaper, easier to get, and more potent. This is the 4th time Ohio is on the list, which is a major indicator of how serious this epidemic is in the state. According to many residents of Dayton, officials have been slow to respond to the problem, and it’s only getting worse.
